Additional Games Are In Development For The Newly Established DC Universe
09 Jan, 2024
In 2021, Monolith Productions, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, disclosed that they were in the process of creating a new Wonder Woman video game. However, further details on the game have not emerged since the announcement.
One potential explanation for the lack of updates may be related to the transition of the DC cinematic universe. The previous DC universe has concluded, and a new chapter is set to commence with the animated series "Creature Commandos" debuting this year. A more significant launch will occur in 2025 with "Superman: Legacy," which will usher in a refreshed narrative universe. Consequently, there will be a new portrayal of Wonder Woman, as Gal Gadot's version is associated with the prior universe. James Gunn, the head of DC, may want the new game to align with this emerging canonical framework.
Despite these changes, we have confirmation that the Wonder Woman game remains under development. Additionally, other DC-themed games are in the pipeline, which is intended to fit within Gunn's vision for DC. In an interview with Variety, David Haddad, the president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, talked about the significance of gaming within the broader context of their franchises, stating:
"Games play a vital and unique role in maintaining our franchises' relevance, resonance, and excitement. They're critical because many fans and content consumers often engage with these worlds first and foremost through games, which are their preferred medium."
