Nintendo Switch Online Expands Sega Genesis Library with Three Classic Titles

Nintendo Switch Online consistently enhances its library by incorporating additional Sega Genesis classics. Recently, three new titles have been introduced to the subscription service. With this November 2024 update, members of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass can now delve into an expanded selection of 47 Sega Genesis games.

The first title to join the lineup is ToeJam & Earl: Panic on Funkotron, a sequel to the 1991 original that debuted in 1993. This charming 2D platformer enjoyed immense popularity back in the 90s, showcasing ToeJam and Earl, two extraterrestrial friends, embarking on a fresh escapade after their initial crash-landing adventures.

Next in the collection is Vectorman, another engaging 2D side-scrolling platformer that was crafted by BlueSky Software and released in 1995. This game went on to see a re-release on several platforms, including the Wii and Steam, as part of the Sega Forever series for mobile devices.

Concluding the trio is Mercs, also referred to as Wolf of the Battlefield II, which originally launched in Japan in 1990 under the name Senjō no Ōkami II for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. This title from Capcom functions as a sequel to the 1985 arcade classic Commando and offers players two unique gameplay modes: Arcade Mode and Original Mode.

To access these newly added games, users of the Nintendo Switch must hold a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online along with the Expansion Pack, available for AU$59.95 / $49.99 / £34.99  for a 12-month duration.
