Star Wars Outlaws: Creative Director Reflects on Mixed Reviews and Promises Future Content
05 Sep, 2024
The creative director of the game Star Wars Outlaws has expressed some disappointment regarding the game’s review scores but remains pleased that players are engaging with the title in a meaningful way. The long-awaited open-world adventure developed by Ubisoft made its debut last week on both PC and consoles, earning a Metacritic score of 76. This reflects a varied response from gamers across different platforms incorporating the PC, along with the eminent PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and not forgetting the Xbox Series S.
In a conversation with GamesRadar, Julian Gerighty acknowledged his feelings about the review scores, admitting some disappointment upon their release. Nonetheless, he finds solace in the positive reactions from players who resonate with the game’s offerings. He emphasized how crucial acknowledgment from critics is, while also recognizing the strong connection that players have made with the experience.
Gerighty highlighted the sense of achievement and pride within the team at Massive Entertainment, stating that they aspired to "reach for the stars" during the four years of development. He conveyed confidence in the game's longevity and the intention for it to be a title that players return to for many years ahead. The studio is also committed to enhancing the game further. He remarked on the potential for ongoing improvement, saying that while there may come a time to pause these enhancements, his focus remains on continual development at this moment.
Although Massive Entertainment has not yet announced specific plans for quality-of-life improvements, additional content is confirmed for release later this year. According to the roadmap for the Season Pass, Star Wars Outlaws is set to receive two distinct story packs that can be bought separately for those who opted not to get the Gold or Ultimate Edition. The first story pack, entitled Wild Card, is planned for release in Fall 2024 and will follow the character Kay Vess as she navigates a high-stakes Sabacc tournament alongside Lando Calrissian. The second, A Pirate's Fortune, is scheduled for Spring 2025 and will see the return of the beloved pirate Hondo Ohnaka.
